The third novel in the series, The Gateway to Earth, is newly out. Here's what the blurb says:
"The third novel for young teen readers from Michael Oehley... another fast-paced, action-packed adventure that will have you turning the pages and begging for more. This is his best yet...
When two powerful weapons are stolen from the Starship Súperia, Daren Sáner and friends are sent on a dangerous mission through a black hole to recover them. Nothing is what it seems in the past or the present as Daren races against time to stop Súperia’s weapons from falling into the wrong hands…"

Now on with the interview...
When did you start writing?
When I was five. My first novel was published when I was 27. I write children’s fantasy science-fiction, but I also write wider fiction for adults (historical, contemporary). I also whenever I can, but at presently I don’t have enough time on my hands.
What's the best part of being a writer?
The positive response from kids.
And the hardest?
Often the hardest part is putting the first paragraph down on the first page.
What are you working on at the moment?
I have two unfinished manuscripts on my shelf and a lot of good intentions to get writing again, but not enough time! I would love to see the Daren Saner series to its completion (books 4-6) and I have a great idea for a dystopian take on Earth in the 2040s.
Who was your favourite writer when you were a child?
Willard Price, for his fast-paced animal adventure yarns. Now I admire JK Rowling, for what she managed to achieve in creating an imaginary world so real to her fans that it has spawned hundreds of thousands of internet fan fictions.
What's your day job?
I live in Horotiu and work in the Waikato as a general practitioner.
