A big thank you to everyone who came along to the Between the Lines exhibition launch last Tuesday – guests, exhibitors, speakers and our many, many helpers.
What a great night, and how exciting to have so much activity and interest around children’s books, and writing and illustrating, in the Waikato.
Around 127 people showed up for the celebrations, and were ably entertained by speakers from the library, a panel of booksellers, writers and illustrators discussing issues in children’s publishing today, and several of our talented exhibitors who performed or read from their work. We were also lucky to have Tim Croucher from Wintec come and speak about the courses they have on offer: particularly interesting for the members of the audience who have recently started, or are contemplating embarking on, their own writing or illustrating journey.
Between the Lines will be on display at Hamilton’s Garden Place Library until 30 April 2014. If you haven’t already been, do pop in and take a look – exhibition coordinator Deb Hinde has done a fabulous job of the displays.
She’s also busy loading the teachers’ resources up on the website. They’re a great classroom tool about local illustrators and writers, and handy to download as a PDF.
And keep an eye on the blog. Throughout the exhibition, we’ll be running a series of in-depth interviews with the exhibitors about their creative lives. Next up is Taupo author Doug Wilson, so watch this space.
